Thought-Provoker: political propaganda

It’s troubling that many people perceive it to be ‘the other side’ that disseminates propaganda, not the government of one’s own country. Instead, many believe that our western governments always speak the truth about what ‘the other side’ is like – what it’s doing and its motives.

In the west we are being fed a biased view of societies that might be deemed to be a threat economically, culturally and militarily by the political elite and supporting media, just as ‘the other side’ is about us.

However, the defensive need to justify one’s own culture and perceived superiority over other cultures (re the ugly side of nationalism and ethnocentrism) prevents the development of such insight and understanding.
